Executives of a New Patriotic Party (NPP) pressure group in the Ashanti Region have declared their support for Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia ahead of the party’s presidential primaries scheduled for January 31, 2026.
The group, known as the NPP Ashanti Regional Pressure Group, believes Dr. Bawumia has the experience, leadership qualities, and electoral appeal needed to lead the party to victory against the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the 2028 general election.
The endorsement followed a show of support through the principal streets of the Kumasi Central Business District, including Kejetia, Adum, Bantema Market, Race Course Market, Adehye Market, and Adum PZ. Members of the group were seen singing and chanting party songs to drum up support for Dr. Bawumia.
Speaking to Wontumi News producer Peprah Wilson after the exercise, the group appealed to NPP delegates across the country to vote massively for Dr. Bawumia during the upcoming primaries.
Acting President of the group, Michael Obeng, urged delegates to grant Dr. Bawumia another opportunity to lead the party, citing what he described as the Vice President’s significant achievements and contributions to national development.
Also lending his voice to the endorsement, Mr. Akwasi Kwakye, Chairman of Bawumia for President, reaffirmed his support for Dr. Bawumia’s presidential ambitions and encouraged party members to rally behind him.
Several market women who interacted with Wontumi News during the procession also called on NPP delegates to support Dr. Bawumia, expressing confidence in his leadership and vision for the country.
