Bekwai MP restores hope with renovation of Queen Elizabeth II Nursery School

The Member of Parliament for Bekwai, Hon. Ralph Opoku-Adusei, has commissioned the newly refurbished Queen Elizabeth II Day Nursery School, ending decades of neglect and restoring the facility to a modern standard.

The renovation project, fully funded by the MP at a cost running into thousands of cedis, forms part of his efforts to improve early childhood education and provide a better learning environment for young pupils in the municipality. The school, originally established in 1954, had seen little to no major upgrades over the years prior to this intervention.

Before the refurbishment, the facility was in a deteriorated state, with aging infrastructure, inadequate furniture, and limited teaching and learning materials. These challenges significantly affected both teaching and learning, raising concerns among parents and education authorities.

Speaking at the commissioning ceremony on Wednesday, April 22, 2026, Hon. Opoku-Adusei—an old pupil of the school—described the project as a personal initiative to give back to an institution that shaped his early education. He stressed the need for children to learn in safe, well-equipped environments, noting that the previous condition of the school was unacceptable.

He further emphasized that quality education begins at the foundational level and must be supported with proper infrastructure and resources, adding that institutions critical to child development should not be left to deteriorate for decades.

The headmistress, Madam Veronica Maanu, expressed gratitude to the MP for what she described as a timely and impactful intervention. She assured that measures would be put in place to maintain the facility and sustain its improved condition.

Mrs. Obeng, who also addressed the gathering, urged corporate bodies, philanthropists, and development partners to support the rehabilitation of other schools in the municipality facing similar challenges.

The event brought together traditional leaders, officials from the Bekwai Municipal Assembly, representatives of the Ghana Education Service, teachers, parents, and pupils, all of whom commended the MP for his commitment to education.

The upgraded facility is expected to enhance teaching and learning at the nursery level, offering a safer, more conducive, and engaging environment for children, while reinforcing the importance of investing in early childhood education.
