Digital inclusion in action – Greater Accra receives 2,400 laptops to power skills, innovation, and opportunity for young people

The Greater Accra Region has received a significant boost in its digital transformation agenda following the presentation of 2,400 laptops by the Ghana Investment Fund for Electronic Communications (GIFEC) to support the rollout of the One Million Coders Programme (OMCP).

The laptops, presented through the Greater Accra Regional Office of GIFEC, will be distributed to Members of Parliament across 23 selected constituencies in the region. The initiative forms part of Phase One of the OMCP, which is set to officially commence on May 4, 2026.

Receiving the devices on behalf of the region, the Greater Accra Regional Minister, Hon. Linda Obenewaa Akweley Ocloo, expressed appreciation to His Excellency John Dramani Mahama and Vice President Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang for their leadership and commitment to advancing digital development in the country.

The programme is a key component of the government’s broader strategy to build a digitally skilled workforce. It is being spearheaded by the Ministry of Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations under the leadership of Hon. Samuel Nartey George.

The One Million Coders Programme aims to equip Ghanaian youth with relevant digital competencies, positioning them to thrive in an increasingly technology-driven global economy.

According to the Regional Minister, the initiative presents enormous opportunities for young people in Greater Accra, particularly in enhancing digital inclusion, promoting innovation, and strengthening the region’s human capital.

The launch of Phase One is expected to mark a major milestone in Ghana’s digital transformation journey, with government reaffirming its commitment to ensuring that no young person is left behind in building a resilient, future-ready nation.
