President John Dramani Mahama has underscored the critical role of collaboration between government, civil society, and development partners in strengthening Ghana’s democracy and promoting inclusive national development.
Speaking at the Ghana Civil Society Forum, President Mahama described the gathering as a distinguished assembly of citizens, activists, community leaders, development practitioners, academics, philanthropists, and partners whose commitment continues to advance democratic governance and national progress.
He commended the Star Ghana Foundation and the Coordinating Committee of the Ghana Civil Society Forum for sustaining what he described as an important platform for dialogue, reflection, collaboration, and collective action.
According to the President, the forum has over the years evolved into one of Ghana’s most significant platforms for civic engagement, bringing together diverse voices to examine national challenges and identify practical solutions aimed at strengthening democratic institutions and fostering inclusive development.
President Mahama noted that the theme of this year’s forum, “Reimagining Partnerships for Democratic Consolidation and Inclusive Development,” is both timely and relevant, as it speaks directly to the realities confronting the nation and the choices required to secure a prosperous future.
Reflecting on Ghana’s democratic journey more than three decades after the establishment of the Fourth Republic, the President highlighted several achievements, including peaceful transfers of power, stronger democratic institutions, a vibrant media landscape, and increased citizen participation in governance.
He stressed that these accomplishments should not be taken for granted, emphasizing the need for continued cooperation among all stakeholders to safeguard democratic gains and ensure that development benefits all Ghanaians.
President Mahama further urged civil society organizations, policymakers, and citizens to work together in building a more inclusive, accountable, and resilient democracy capable of responding effectively to the needs and aspirations of the people.
