The Amansie Central District Assembly has commissioned and officially handed over the newly refurbished Jacobu Health Centre as part of efforts to improve access to quality healthcare in rural communities.
The facility, which was once the old Jacobu Magistrate Court building, had remained abandoned for more than a decade. Recognising the growing healthcare needs of residents, the Assembly renovated and converted the structure into a fully functional health centre to reduce the burden of travelling long distances for medical care.
The newly commissioned facility comprises male and female wards, an Antenatal Care (ANC) unit, a labour ward, consulting rooms, a waiting area, records and accounts departments, as well as an integrated ambulance service centre to strengthen emergency healthcare delivery.
The commissioning ceremony, held on Tuesday, August 4, 2026, brought together traditional authorities, religious leaders, representatives of the Member of Parliament, Assembly Members, District Assembly officials, health professionals, and residents.
Addressing the gathering, the District Chief Executive for Amansie Central, Hon. Emmanuel Obeng-Agyemang, described the project as a historic transformation that has turned a former symbol of justice into a centre for healing and hope.
He said the initiative aligns with President John Dramani Mahama’s vision of expanding access to primary healthcare through the government’s Free Primary Healthcare Programme.
According to the DCE, the project reflects deliberate leadership, collaboration, and a commitment to ensuring that quality healthcare is accessible to every resident.
“The Jacobu Health Centre stands as a living testimony to our national agenda of bringing healthcare closer to the people and ensuring that health is not a privilege but a right,” he stated.
Hon. Obeng-Agyemang also announced that the facility now houses a fully operational ambulance service centre to improve emergency response and save lives.
To support the smooth commencement of healthcare services, the DCE made a personal donation of GH₵10,000 as seed capital for the procurement of essential medicines and non-consumable medical supplies.
He reaffirmed the Assembly’s commitment to expanding healthcare infrastructure, improving education, and promoting sustainable development throughout the district. He also urged residents to take advantage of the facility by seeking early medical attention and embracing preventive healthcare practices.
The DCE acknowledged the support of the Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, the Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr. Frank Amoakohene, traditional authorities, Assembly Members, the Works and Planning Department, contractors, and other stakeholders whose contributions made the project possible.
He further disclosed that health personnel have already been deployed to begin operations at the facility.
The Amansie Central District Director of Health, Mr. Oppong Aprem Twum Ahmed, described the commissioning of the health centre as a major milestone that will significantly reduce the need for residents to travel to Bekwai and other neighbouring communities for healthcare.
He noted that malaria remains one of the district’s biggest health challenges and expressed optimism that pregnant women, nursing mothers, and other vulnerable groups would now have easier access to quality medical services.
Mr. Twum Ahmed revealed that 17 health professionals have been posted by the government to provide healthcare services at the facility.
The Presiding Member of the Amansie Central District Assembly, Hon. Isaac Osei Duah, called on health workers to uphold professionalism and deliver quality healthcare while encouraging residents to protect and maintain the facility.
On behalf of the traditional authorities, the Chief of Jacobu, Nana Adu Darko III, expressed appreciation to the government, the District Chief Executive, and the Assembly for investing in the health and well-being of the people.
He pledged the full support of the traditional leadership in ensuring the proper management and long-term sustainability of the Jacobu Health Centre.
The commissioning of the refurbished Jacobu Health Centre marks another significant step in the government’s efforts to strengthen healthcare delivery and improve the quality of life for residents across the Amansie Central District.
