CID Boss COP Lydia Donkor outlines evidence gathered in ongoing ‘Ghana Jollof’ investigation

The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service has disclosed ongoing investigations into social media activities involving Barbara Asantua Kodiya, popularly known as “Ghana Jolof,” and Salome Awiti Avo.

Speaking at a press briefing, the CID Boss, COP Lydia Donkor, said the Police had been monitoring a TikTok account operating under the name Ghana Jolof, which allegedly published offensive and inciting comments as well as information considered false and capable of causing fear and alarm.

According to COP Lydia Donkor, police intelligence identified the owner of the account as Barbara Asantua Kodiya, who is believed to be residing in the United Kingdom.

She said investigations had established that Barbara allegedly produced and published videos containing offensive and inciting statements with the potential to trigger violence.

The CID Boss further disclosed that one of the videos under investigation contained an allegation that there had been a near coup d’état at the Jubilee House.

COP Lydia Donkor said investigations also identified SALOMEY Awiti, a nurse residing in Techiman, as an individual suspected of assisting in the dissemination of the videos allegedly produced by Barbara.

She explained that Salomey allegedly recruited other individuals to redistribute and circulate the materials across various social media platforms.

The CID Boss added that an examination of Salomey’s mobile phone and its contents had established a relationship between the two suspects.

She further stated that the Police were in possession of audio interviews in which the relationship between the two individuals and their alleged involvement in the publication and circulation of the materials were discussed.

Salomey Awiti is currently in police custody following a court remand, while investigations into the matter continue.
