AFAM Concept Incorporated, an American company and a cosmetics manufacturer, recently hosted a workshop for hairdressers and beauticians to educate them on its range of hair care products. The event, held in Accra at the Osu Presbyterian Church, aimed to provide attendees with in-depth knowledge on the company’s products, including shampoos, conditioners, relaxers, and styling aids.

Speaking at the event, Mr. Korkor Owusu Akoto, President of AFAM, explained that the company was established as a joint venture between African and American investors, hence the name AFAM (African American). He said the company has subsidiaries in several African countries, including Ghana, Nigeria, Kenya, and Senegal, and employs locals to market and distribute their products.

The workshop was part of AFAM Concept’s efforts to give back to the hairdressing community, a key target market for their products. Julbert Agape Ventures, a distributor for AFAM Concept’s soy organics products, praised the event, saying it provided valuable education on the products and helped attendees understand what they were buying.

“They come in their numbers from all over the country, and then they get education and they buy what they need to buy,” she said. Agape Ventures distributes products such as waterless shampoo, twist and lock gel, and itch therapy, which are popular among natural hair enthusiasts.

The event was attended by hairdressers and beauticians from across Ghana and included demonstrations, product giveaways, and a free breakfast and lunch. AFAM Concept used the opportunity to promote its products and encourage attendees to patronize locally made goods.
“The local products are equally good, they are very good for them to actually patronize once,” Mr. Akoto said, urging Ghanaians to have confidence in locally made products.
