Atwima Mponua DCE leads successful anti-galamsey operation at Nantiedi; over 150 illegal mining machines destroyed

The District Chief Executive for Atwima Mponua District, Hon. Issahak Ibrahim, has announced the success of a major anti-illegal mining operation carried out at Nantiedi near Agogoso.

According to the DCE, the operation led to the destruction of more than 150 locally manufactured illegal mining machines with an estimated value of about GHS 15 million. The exercise was undertaken by the district’s Anti-Illegal Mining Taskforce in collaboration with security service personnel.

Hon. Ibrahim described the exercise as a significant step in the ongoing efforts to protect the Offin River from the destructive activities of illegal miners, commonly known as galamsey operators.

He commended members of the taskforce and the security agencies for their dedication, courage, and commitment to safeguarding the environment.

The District Chief Executive reaffirmed the district’s determination to intensify the fight against illegal mining, stressing that protecting the country’s rivers, lands, and the future of coming generations remains a top priority.
