Chairman Wontumi Declares Intention to Contest for NPP National Chairman

The Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Antwi Bosiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, has officially declared his intention to contest for the position of National Chairman of the party.

Addressing the media at a press conference, Chairman Wontumi outlined his political journey, leadership credentials, and vision for strengthening the NPP ahead of future elections. He emphasized effective mobilization, data-driven strategy, and youth empowerment as key pillars of his leadership agenda.

He revealed that his rise within the party began at the constituency level, where he served twice as constituency chairman before being elevated to regional chairman in recognition of his performance, successful projects, and measurable gains for the party. He attributed his achievements to teamwork, stressing that political success is built on collective effort rather than individual ambition.

Chairman Wontumi underscored the need for a national chairman capable of mobilizing party supporters efficiently, particularly as the NPP targets over two million votes in the 2024 general elections. According to him, modern political organization must be grounded in science and data, a principle that inspired him to establish a political movement group to enhance strategic voter engagement.

Touching on leadership resilience, he noted that setbacks should be viewed as part of the political process rather than an endpoint. He cited the return of Alhaji Dr. Mahmoud Bawumia to active party leadership despite earlier challenges as evidence that experience and perseverance remain valuable assets. He also referenced the National Democratic Congress (NDC), which transitioned to a new presidential candidate after its former leader became constitutionally ineligible to contest again.

He further highlighted the strategic importance of the Ashanti Region, arguing that electing the first national chairman from the region would energize the party’s stronghold and inject renewed momentum nationwide. He stressed the need to intentionally nurture young party members, mentioning figures such as Hackman, Oswajiman, and the Council of FedEx Chairmen as emerging leaders who could thrive under inclusive leadership.

While acknowledging that no leader is without flaws, Chairman Wontumi maintained that his leadership would help the NPP reconnect with its founding ideals established in 1992 and better position the party to serve both its members and the broader electorate.

In his concluding remarks, he appealed to the media, undecided delegates, and party faithful to support his bid for National Chairman. He reaffirmed his unwavering commitment to the NPP and expressed his readiness to serve the party on a full-time basis, emphasizing the sacrifices the role demands and his dedication to advancing the party’s interests.
