DCE of Ahafo Ano South West District appeals for patience over cocoa price concerns

The District Chief Executive (DCE) for Ahafo Ano South West District, Hon. Abubakar Sadick, has urged cocoa farmers to remain patient as government works to address concerns over the current cocoa pricing structure.

According to him, the prevailing global market price of cocoa is largely beyond the direct control of the government, but efforts are underway to ensure farmers receive fair compensation for their produce. He appealed to farmers to give John Dramani Mahama adequate time to implement reforms aimed at stabilizing and strengthening the cocoa sector.

Meanwhile, cocoa farmers in the district are preparing to present a petition to the DCE, seeking his intervention in engaging the President to review the current cocoa price, which they say does not meet their expectations or adequately cover rising production costs.

Addressing the media, President Mahama assured cocoa farmers that the government’s ongoing reform initiatives would bring about a comprehensive transformation of the cocoa industry. He emphasized that the planned overhaul would promote fairness and transparency in pricing, taking into account production costs while ensuring reasonable profit margins for farmers.
