DCE unveils district achievements journal in Atwima Kwanwoma District

The District Chief Executive (DCE) for Atwima Kwanwoma District, Hon. Grace Agyemang Asamoah, has launched a quarterly news journal titled “Atwima Kwanwoma In Focus” to document and showcase development projects and key interventions undertaken by the Assembly.

The official launch took place on Thursday, February 12, 2026, at the District Assembly’s Conference Room in Twedie. The ceremony was attended by traditional authorities, opinion leaders, political representatives from across the divide, assembly members, heads of departments, development partners, religious leaders and members of the media.

In her address, Hon. Agyemang Asamoah described the publication as a comprehensive record of the Assembly’s collective progress rather than a celebration of individual accomplishments. She reiterated her commitment to inclusive development, noting that the journal reflects the shared vision and teamwork driving the district’s growth.

According to her, the quarterly publication will serve as a platform for accountability, transparency and public engagement by keeping residents informed about ongoing and completed projects.

Governance and Administration

Highlighting achievements in governance, the DCE announced the completion of repainting works at the District Administration Block and the Trede Area Council to improve working conditions and maintain the dignity of public institutions.

She also disclosed that billboards have been installed to publicize the Assembly’s services and enhance access to information. Additionally, boards displaying the chronological list of past and present DCEs, Presiding Members and District Coordinating Directors have been mounted to preserve the Assembly’s institutional history.

Infrastructure Improvements

In the area of infrastructure, several roads have been reshaped to improve accessibility. These include the Nwinsa–Nkwanta–Amoafo stretch, Kotwi Special Ice road, Biragokrom, Asaago and the Bekwaime–Kyekyewere road. The interventions, she said, have eased transportation, boosted trade and improved access to healthcare and education.

The Ampabame No. 1 Bridge has also been renovated to ensure safety and facilitate the smooth movement of people and goods.

Health and Education Initiatives

Within the health sector, construction has commenced on three Community-based Health Planning and Services (CHPS) compounds at Asaago, Nweneso No. 1 and Nweneso No. 3 to expand access to primary healthcare services.

On education, the compound of Afua Kobi Ampem Girls’ Senior High School has been reshaped to create a more conducive learning environment. Work is ongoing on a three-unit classroom block at New Ejuampong, while a contract has been awarded for a six-unit classroom block at Afasiebon Basic School.

The Assembly has also provided roofing sheets to Yabi D/A JHS, supplied doors to Aburaso D/A School and donated GH¢5,000 to Adum-Afrancho School to address urgent infrastructural needs.

Sanitation, Agriculture and Water

To improve sanitation, seven major refuse dump sites at Sabin Akrofuom, Kantinkyiren, Kyekyewere, Brofoyedru, Akyeremade, Twedie and Dida have been evacuated. Skip containers were distributed to selected communities, while sanitary equipment and streetlight bulbs were supplied to all 33 Electoral Areas to promote environmental cleanliness and public safety.

In agriculture, the district celebrated hardworking farmers during the 41st Farmers’ Day event at Dida, reaffirming its commitment to supporting the sector.

To enhance access to potable water, 16 mechanized boreholes were constructed across various communities.

Housing and Partnerships

The DCE further announced the commencement of the Affordable Housing Units Project at Trede by the Ministry of Works and Housing to help address housing challenges in the district. She also revealed plans for an educational complex—from kindergarten to university level—to be developed with support from United States-based partners, Rev. and Mrs. Close.

Awards and Recognition

Hon. Agyemang Asamoah disclosed that the district’s efforts have received international recognition. She was honoured with the 4th African Public Service Optimum Awards 2025 for excellence in public service and received recognition from IAMCCBC International Law – USA. She is also expected to receive the She Achievers Award in Rwanda in March 2026.

Despite the accolades, she emphasized that the awards reflect the collective efforts of the Assembly and the people of Atwima Kwanwoma.

The event concluded with the official unveiling of “Atwima Kwanwoma In Focus,” which the DCE described as a symbol of transparency, accountability and renewed commitment to inclusive governance.
