The Minister for Defence has praised the Ghana Armed Forces for their dedication, professionalism, and unwavering service to the nation, describing their role as critical to Ghana’s continued peace and stability.
Speaking at the End of Year West African Soldiers’ Social Activities (WASSA), the Minister said the event provided an important opportunity to reflect on the achievements of the Armed Forces over the past year and to honour the sacrifices of service personnel.

He expressed gratitude to President John Dramani Mahama, Commander-in-Chief of the Ghana Armed Forces, for gracing the occasion, noting that the President’s leadership continues to underpin national peace, economic recovery, and good governance.
According to the Minister, the President’s vision has inspired the Armed Forces to remain focused on building a secure, stable, and prosperous Ghana, while strengthening cooperation and operational effectiveness within the Ministry of Defence and the military.

The Minister assured both personnel and the general public that the Ministry of Defence remains committed to providing clear strategic direction to ensure the Armed Forces remain modern, responsive, and prepared to address emerging security threats at home and across the subregion.
He emphasised that the welfare of men and women in uniform remains a top priority of the Mahama administration, with government taking deliberate steps to improve living conditions and overall wellbeing.

Key welfare areas receiving attention include accommodation, healthcare, training, career progression, and general welfare, which the Minister described as essential to boosting morale, professionalism, and operational effectiveness.
He further noted that government recognises its responsibility to retired personnel and veterans, including members of the 1995/96 year group and over-aged retirees, assuring that their concerns are being addressed through constructive engagement aimed at fair and sustainable solutions.

The Minister concluded by calling on personnel to uphold the unity, discipline, and traditions that define the Ghana Armed Forces, while commending the Military High Command and all service members for their continued service and sacrifice.

He ended his remarks with prayers for the Ghana Armed Forces and the nation.
