Egypt head coach Hossam Hassan has raised allegations of unfair treatment following his team’s elimination from the 2026 FIFA World Cup by Argentina.
Hassan claimed that financial interests influenced decisions surrounding the tournament, suggesting that there was a desire to keep Argentina star Lionel Messi and his team in the competition.
“It’s all about money. They want Messi to stay in the tournament. In football, many things happen off the pitch because of interests,” the Egypt coach stated.
The former Egyptian striker insisted that his team deserved to progress, arguing that Egypt were the better side during their Round of 16 clash against Argentina.
His comments have sparked debate among football fans, as he questioned the fairness of the outcome and called attention to what he described as behind-the-scenes influences in the sport.
