Gender Minister Visits Family of Alleged Child Abuse Victim, Jalila Abdul Jalil

The Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection, Hon. Dr. Agnes Naa Momo Lartey, has visited the family of eight-year-old Jalila Abdul Jalil following a report by Channel One TV on the alleged abuse of the Class Two pupil of St. Olives Grammar Boarding School in Dodowa.

The visit was to express the Government’s sympathy and to reassure the family of the State’s commitment to the child’s safety, recovery, and future wellbeing.

Addressing the family, the Minister described the incident as deeply unfortunate and reaffirmed her resolve to ensure that Jalila receives comprehensive medical, psychosocial, and welfare support. She stressed that the Ministry would follow the case through to its conclusion.

Emphasising government’s zero tolerance for child abuse, the Minister stated that “anybody who harms a child harms the nation,” and assured the family that the law would take its full course, regardless of the status of those involved.

As part of the visit, Hon. Dr. Lartey made a donation to support the family, including a cash amount of GH¢5,000, food items, and household supplies.

The family expressed appreciation to the Minister for the visit and the support extended but appealed for swift justice in the matter.

The Minister also commended Channel One TV and other media organisations for bringing the issue, as well as similar cases, to public attention, noting that responsible journalism plays a critical role in protecting vulnerable children and promoting accountability.

She was accompanied by the Member of Parliament for the area, Hon. Theresa Lardi Awuni, the Head of the Domestic Violence Secretariat, Madam Malonin Asibi, and other officials from the Ministry.
