Ghana Police and Bank of Ghana Crack Down on Illegal Forex Trading in Accra

The Ghana Police Service and the Bank of Ghana have intensified efforts to combat illegal foreign exchange activities in Accra, arresting 41 suspects, including Ghanaians and foreign nationals, in a recent operation.

The operation, conducted on December 9, 2025, saw the seizure of various currencies, including Ghana Cedis, CFA, Naira, and US dollars, which will be held by the Bank of Ghana as evidence.

COP Lydia Yaako Donkor, CID Boss, stated that the operation is part of a nationwide effort to stabilize the foreign exchange market and promote economic stability. This follows a similar operation in November 2025, where 20 suspects were arrested.

Since August 2025, authorities have arrested 90 suspects, with 13 charged and brought before the Accra Circuit Court.

The police and Bank of Ghana warn that illegal forex trading will not be tolerated, and offenders will face prosecution.

The public is encouraged to use legitimate banking channels for foreign exchange transactions. The operation is ongoing, with authorities committed to eradicating illegal forex activities nationwide.
