The Member of Parliament for the Adansi Akrofrom Constituency, Hon. Joseph Azumah, has cut the sod for the construction of a four-storey boys’ dormitory block at Akrofrom Senior High Technical School (SHTS) to help address the school’s growing infrastructural challenges.
The project forms part of efforts by the MP to improve living conditions for students, as the school has been grappling with inadequate accommodation facilities due to its increasing population.

Speaking at the sod-cutting ceremony, Hon. Azumah explained that the modern dormitory facility will be equipped with housemaster’s quarters on each floor, a spacious ironing room, washing areas, washrooms, and other essential amenities to ensure students have a comfortable and conducive living environment.
He disclosed that the project is expected to be completed within 18 months.
Hon. Azumah expressed deep concern about the current state of accommodation in the school, describing it as unacceptable for students.

According to him, the existing conditions in some of the dormitories are extremely poor.
“The situation in the school is very terrible, especially when it comes to accommodation. What we have here can best be described as a prison-type accommodation, and that is not the kind of environment we should allow our students to live in,” he stated.
The MP further noted that the dormitory project is only one of several interventions he plans to undertake to improve infrastructure and educational facilities within the constituency.
Currently, due to the lack of adequate dormitory space, some students are reportedly forced to sleep in an uncompleted building while attending classes, raising concerns about their safety and welfare.

The Headmaster of the school, Mr. Osei Owusu, expressed appreciation to the MP for the initiative, describing the project as both timely and necessary.
He explained that the school is facing a serious infrastructure deficit as the student population continues to grow, placing pressure on the limited facilities available.
Mr. Owusu added that even the existing dormitory blocks are in poor condition and require urgent attention.
Hon. Azumah also revealed that since assuming office as Member of Parliament, he has dedicated about 70 percent of his Common Fund allocation and personal benefits toward supporting educational development across the Adansi Akrofrom Constituency.
The sod-cutting ceremony was attended by the District Chief Executive, traditional leaders, teachers, students, and community members who gathered to witness the commencement of the much-needed project.
