The Domi Keniago Health Center in the Amansie South District of the Ashanti Region has been grappling with persistent power outages, commonly known as dumsor, which have negatively affected healthcare delivery.
The Deputy Head of the facility, Mr. Tahiru Zakaria, disclosed that the health center has been operating without a reliable power supply or a standby generator, a situation that has disrupted daily operations and compromised the proper preservation of medicines.

According to him, nurses on night duty are often compelled to rely on the torchlights on their mobile phones—and sometimes assistance from patients—to carry out medical procedures during power outages.

The plight of the facility came to public attention when philanthropist Abu Johnny, popularly known as AJ, was admitted to the center and personally experienced the challenges caused by the lack of electricity. Following his admission, he donated a standby generator to the health facility to help alleviate the situation.

In his response, Mr. Abu Johnny recounted the difficulties he encountered during his stay at the center, noting that these experiences motivated him to provide support. He also appealed to individuals and corporate bodies to complement government efforts in improving healthcare delivery.

The Assembly Member for the community, Hon. Oduro Charles, confirmed that attempts to draw the attention of the relevant authorities to the problem had been unsuccessful for over a year.
