The Chief Executive Officer of the Students Loan Trust Fund (SLTF), Dr. Saajida Shiraz, has highlighted the Fund’s efforts to simplify and improve access to student loans through digital systems and institutional collaboration.
Speaking at the 6th International Conference of the Association of African Higher Education Financing Agencies (AAHEFA), Dr. Shiraz explained that the SLTF has introduced measures aimed at making the loan application and disbursement process more accessible and efficient for students.
She said the reforms were conceptualised to provide students with the necessary support to access financial assistance without having to go through lengthy and complicated procedures.
According to her, the Fund has also worked closely with educational institutions to facilitate the application and validation of students, particularly where institutional processes and financial management requirements could otherwise create challenges.
Dr. Shiraz noted that the digital application system has significantly improved the speed at which students can apply for loans, with applications being processed in real time.
She disclosed that in one of the recent application exercises, the Fund received more than 200,000 applications. Following the validation process, about 186,000 students were successfully validated and became eligible for the support.
The SLTF CEO said the experience demonstrates the importance of using technology and institutional partnerships to expand access to higher education financing.
She reaffirmed the Fund’s commitment to strengthening its systems to ensure that more students can access financial support conveniently and on time.
