Police Investigate Attack on Officers at Jacobu

The Ashanti Regional Police Command has launched an investigation into an attack on a patrol team from the Jacobu District at Bepotenten Sukuum while officers were on routine patrol duties.

The incident occurred on January 23, 2026, after police officers retrieved a pump-action gun from a 15-year-old boy and directed him to inform the owner of the weapon to report to the police station with the necessary documentation.

According to the Police Command, the patrol team was returning from the operation when they were confronted by a crowd of about 100 individuals who blocked the road. The group, some of whom were allegedly armed with cutlasses and firearms, attacked the officers and forcibly seized a service rifle.

During the ensuing confrontation, police shot the individual who had taken possession of the service weapon, while another suspect sustained injuries. The stolen service rifle was subsequently recovered.

The Ashanti Regional Police Command has strongly condemned the attack and warned the public against acts of violence towards police officers. The Command stressed that all persons involved in the incident will be identified, pursued, and arrested to face the full rigours of the law.

Investigations into the incident are ongoing.
