MoGCSP LAUNCHES ’16 DAYS OF ACTIVISM AGAINST GENDER-BASED VIOLENCE’ CAMPAIGN FOR 2025

Ghana has launched the 2025 “16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence” campaign, focusing on ending digital violence against women and girls. The event, held on November 25, brought together government officials, international partners, and civil society organizations to address the growing threat of physical and digital violence.

Speaking at the event was the Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection, Hon. Dr. Naa Momo Lartey, warned that gender‑based violence is being amplified by technology and entrenched cultural norms. In a keynote address, she announced a multi‑regional campaign to combat online harassment, cyber‑stalking, deep‑fake abuse and other forms of technology‑facilitated violence.

The campaign, which will run nationwide, calls on citizens to report abuse, seek support and help foster a culture of respect and safety. It also reminds the public that help is available through the Ministry’s reporting channels.

  • Theme: “Unite! End Digital Violence Against Women and Girls”
  • Objective: Intensify public education on gender-based violence and promote digital safety
  • Statistics: 27.7% of Ghanaian women have experienced domestic violence, while 32% of girls aged 15-24 believe wife-beating is justified
  • Initiatives:
    • Training over 200 market executives as paralegals
    • Mobilizing 100 professional volunteers to support survivors
    • Launching a partnership with the transport sector to disseminate information on gender-based violence and digital safety
  • Support: Cabinet has approved the revised National Domestic Violence Policy, and work is ongoing on a new Domestic Abuse Bill

The Minister emphasized the need for unified national resolve to address this issue and promote a safer digital environment for all Ghanaians.
