Deputy Director of Operations at the Presidency and Deputy General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mustapha Gbande, has called for patience and stronger engagement between party leaders and grassroots members in the Odododiodio Constituency.
Speaking at a town hall meeting with NDC members at Bukom Park, Hon. Mustapha Gbande acknowledged concerns among party supporters who feel they have not benefited sufficiently since the party returned to power.
He said the meeting was organized to listen to the grievances of members and provide a platform for leadership to address their concerns.
According to him, many NDC members made significant sacrifices during the 2024 election campaign, including spending their own money and facing various challenges to help the party secure victory.
Hon. Mustapha Gbande emphasized that the NDC government must ensure that its grassroots supporters are not left behind, while urging constituency, branch and assembly-level executives to strengthen communication with members.
He also highlighted some of the government’s achievements, including efforts to sustain Free SHS, restore the National Health Insurance Scheme, complete abandoned road projects and maximize the benefits of Ghana’s gold resources through the GoldBod initiative.
Addressing concerns over jobs and appointments, Mr. Gbande admitted that not every party member could immediately receive an appointment, but assured supporters that opportunities would continue to emerge.
He urged members to approach their constituency executives and Members of Parliament with their concerns instead of resorting to confrontation.
The meeting also saw party members raise concerns about the lack of appointments for supporters in the constituency and the welfare of families of two NDC members who reportedly lost their lives during the party’s struggle to regain power.
Hon. Gbande assured the gathering that the leadership would engage the constituency executives and look into the concerns raised.
He further announced that similar engagements would be held across the various electoral areas in Odododiodio to give party members and residents the opportunity to voice their concerns directly to leadership.
Hon. Gbande called on NDC supporters to remain united, patient and supportive of President John Dramani Mahama, stressing that the government could not achieve its objectives without the support of the party’s grassroots.
