Zonda Tec Launches Chery Vehicles in Ghana, Expands Footprint in West Africa

Zonda Tec Ghana Limited has officially launched the Chery brand of vehicles onto the Ghanaian market, marking a significant milestone in the company’s two-decade journey to becoming a leading supplier and assembler of automobiles in West Africa.

The launch ceremony brought together key industry stakeholders, including the Chief Executive Officer of the Association of Ghana Industries, Mr. Seth Twum Akwaboah; the Director of Business Development and Operations at First National Bank, Mr. Jerry; the Chief Executive Officer of Channel One TV, Mr. Samuel Atta Mensah; representatives from Multipac Company Limited; officials from Chery Automobile International; government representatives; customers; and members of the media.

Speaking at the event, the Managing Director of Zonda Tec Ghana Limited Madam Yang Yang highlighted the company’s growth since its establishment nearly 20 years ago. Founded with a vision to become the largest supplier of commercial vehicles in West Africa, Zonda Tec has evolved from an automobile trading company into a major assembler of heavy-duty vehicles, trucks, pick-ups, and SUVs at its state-of-the-art assembly plant in Tema.

Operating under the supervision of the Ghana Automotive Development Centre and in line with the Ghana Automotive Development Policy, the company adheres strictly to standards set by the Ghana Standards Authority. Over the years, Zonda Tec has partnered with leading global brands including Sinotruk, Shantui, CIMC, Forland, GWM, Dongfeng, Sany, and now Chery. The company has established more than nine branches across Ghana and expanded operations into other West African countries.

Madam Yang Yang noted that Zonda Tec has contributed significantly to Ghana’s economic development, providing over 10,000 direct and indirect jobs. Beyond vehicle sales and assembly, the company has implemented several Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives, particularly in road safety education. In collaboration with the National Road Safety Authority, the Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) of the Ghana Police Service, and the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA), Zonda Tec has trained more than 15,000 drivers in defensive driving and road safety awareness.

She also emphasized the company’s commitment to gender inclusion and youth empowerment. As a female entrepreneur, she underscored Zonda Tec’s focus on equal employment opportunities, particularly in engineering roles. The company boasts a growing number of female engineers at its assembly plant and workshops, promoting technology transfer between China and Ghana. In 2025, Zonda Tec served as the automobile sponsor for the Ghana’s Most Beautiful pageant organized by TV3.

The highlight of the event was the official introduction of Chery vehicles to the Ghanaian market. Chery, described as China’s leading passenger car exporter with a presence in over 80 countries, is known for its SUVs and hybrid models. Zonda Tec announced that it has secured an authorized dealership agreement with the brand.

The newly introduced models include the Tiggo 2 Pro, Tiggo 7 Pro Max, and Tiggo 9 Super Hybrid, among others. The vehicles are designed to offer a blend of luxury, affordability, and fuel efficiency, catering to a wide range of consumers. According to the company, the SUVs are equipped with durable suspension systems, strong ground clearance, and fuel-efficient engines suitable for Ghana’s road conditions.

The Managing Director noted that Ghana remains one of the largest vehicle import hubs in West Africa, with thousands of vehicles arriving at the ports each month. She said the partnership between Zonda Tec and Chery offers consumers the opportunity to purchase brand-new, locally assembled vehicles at competitive prices, with readily available spare parts and reliable after-sales service.

She further expressed optimism that government initiatives, including the 24-hour economy policy, would enhance local production capacity and boost vehicle supply to both the Ghanaian and wider West African markets.

The ceremony ended with a call for continued patronage and partnership, as Zonda Tec reaffirmed its commitment to delivering value, safety, comfort, and prestige to customers through its new collaboration with Chery.
