President John Mahama honoured by Yonsei University with an Honorary Doctorate Degree in Public Administration

The President of the Republic of Ghana, John Dramani Mahama, has described the conferment of an Honorary Doctorate Degree in Public Administration by Yonsei University as a significant milestone that reflects the strengthening ties and shared vision between nations across continents.

Speaking during the conferment ceremony held at the prestigious South Korean institution, President Mahama noted that the honour goes beyond a personal recognition of his contributions to public service and leadership. According to him, the award symbolizes a bridge that connects two countries, two continents, and two peoples who are united by a common desire to build a better, more prosperous future for the global community.

The President explained that such academic recognitions play an important role in fostering stronger diplomatic, cultural, and intellectual exchanges between nations. He said the recognition by Yonsei University demonstrates the deepening cooperation between Ghana and South Korea, especially in areas such as education, governance, innovation, economic development, and knowledge sharing.

President Mahama expressed profound gratitude to the leadership of Yonsei University for the honour, extending his appreciation to the university’s Board of Trustees, the President of the university, Yoon Dong-sup, as well as the faculty, staff, and students for what he described as a memorable and historic occasion.

He commended the institution for its commitment to academic excellence and global engagement, noting that universities such as Yonsei play a vital role in shaping leaders and advancing research that contributes to solving some of the world’s most pressing challenges.

President Mahama further emphasized that the honorary doctorate is not an honour he accepts solely for himself but rather one he receives on behalf of the people of Ghana. He said the gesture represents the deep respect, goodwill, and mutual admiration that exist between the people of Ghana and South Korea.

According to him, the recognition also reflects the long-standing friendship and cooperation between the two countries, which continues to grow stronger through partnerships in education, technology transfer, trade, infrastructure development, and cultural exchange.

The President expressed optimism that the relationship between Ghana and South Korea will continue to expand in the years ahead, creating more opportunities for collaboration between universities, researchers, governments, and businesses in both countries.

The ceremony at Yonsei University, widely regarded as one of South Korea’s most respected and globally recognized academic institutions, brought together members of the university community, diplomats, government representatives, and other distinguished guests. The gathering underscored the important role academic institutions play in strengthening international relations and promoting cross-cultural understanding.

President Mahama concluded his remarks by reiterating his commitment to deepening the partnership between Ghana and South Korea. He expressed hope that the enduring friendship between the two nations will continue to flourish, paving the way for greater cooperation, shared progress, and sustainable development that will benefit both countries and their people for generations to come.
