MP for Atwima Mponua Breaks Ground for Ultramodern Police Station in Kotokum

The Member of Parliament for Atwima Mponua, Hon. Seth Osei Akoko, has cut sod for the construction of an ultramodern police station at Kotokum in the Ashanti Region.

The project is aimed at strengthening security in Kotokum and over 18 surrounding communities, improving policing services, and supporting local development.

The planned facility will be fully equipped with essential features, including a charge office, CID unit, armed store room, separate detention cells for males, females, and juveniles, as well as offices, washrooms, and rest areas for officers—ensuring efficient and professional police operations.

At a brief ceremony held at the Kotokum Community Centre, residents expressed deep concern over rising incidents of armed robbery, particularly targeting commuters at night. They voiced optimism that the new police station will help curb the growing insecurity in the area.

Addressing the media, Hon. Seth Osei Akoko emphasized that the project fulfills one of his key promises ahead of the 2024 general elections. He noted that increasing farming and mining activities in the area have made security more critical, as criminal elements have taken advantage of the situation, making life difficult for residents.

He further disclosed that the project will be supported by the MP’s Common Fund and urged the contractor to prioritize the employment of skilled local labour to benefit the community.

The Odikro of Kotokum, Nana Kofi Agyeman Badu II, highlighted pressing development challenges facing the area. These include the need for potable drinking water, improved telecommunications network, reliable electricity, and functional transformers.

He, however, assured the MP and the contractor of the community’s full support toward the successful completion of the project, encouraging collaboration to address the area’s development needs.
