AKROFUOM DCE URGES BECE CANDIDATES TO STAY DISCIPLINED, ANNOUNCES SCHOLARSHIP SUPPORT

The District Chief Executive (DCE) for Akrofuom District, Hon. Gariba Mohammad, has called on candidates participating in this year’s Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) to approach the exercise with confidence, discipline, and a strong sense of integrity.

Speaking during a monitoring visit to examination centres across the district, Hon. Gariba encouraged the candidates to remain calm and focused, urging them to see the BECE as no different from the internal examinations they have written in their respective schools. He cautioned them against engaging in any form of examination malpractice, stressing that such actions could lead to the cancellation of their papers and negatively affect their academic future.

The DCE further reiterated his commitment to promoting education in the district, announcing that he is personally prepared to sponsor brilliant but financially challenged students who excel in the examination to continue their education at the next level. According to him, no hardworking student should be denied the opportunity to progress due to financial constraints.

He also revealed that the Member of Parliament for the constituency, Hon. Joseph Azumah, has pledged additional support by offering scholarships to the best ten candidates from each of the three examination centres in the district. This initiative, he noted, is aimed at rewarding excellence and motivating students to give off their best.

In addition to the educational support, Hon. Azumah donated bulbs and other electrical materials to help improve lighting conditions at the examination centres, ensuring a more conducive environment for candidates.

A total of 926 candidates, comprising 461 boys and 465 girls, have registered for the examination in the district. The candidates are writing their papers at three designated centres—Akrofuom, Ampunyase, and Mensonso.

Hon. Gariba expressed satisfaction with the overall organisation and conduct of the examinations across all centres visited. He commended supervisors, invigilators, and other officials for their professionalism and dedication to duty.

However, he urged examination officials to remain vigilant and strictly enforce all rules and regulations governing the conduct of the BECE. He emphasized that maintaining discipline and fairness throughout the process is essential to ensuring that candidates can write their exams in a free and transparent environment.

The visit forms part of ongoing efforts by district authorities to monitor the examinations and provide the necessary support to both candidates and officials, while also reinforcing the importance of academic excellence and integrity.
