The Minister for Education, Hon. Haruna Iddrisu, has announced that government has granted financial clearance for the recruitment of at least 7,000 teachers nationwide to strengthen Ghana’s education system.
Addressing a press conference, the Minister explained that the initiative forms part of broader efforts by the administration of John Dramani Mahama to enhance the quality of education across the country. He reiterated that education remains a key priority, with government committed to investing heavily in infrastructure, as well as the provision of teaching and learning materials.
Hon. Iddrisu noted that the recruitment exercise also seeks to tackle the growing unemployment challenge among graduates, especially those trained in the teaching profession. He acknowledged that a significant number of students have recently completed their training from colleges of education and other teacher-training institutions.
“I am pleased to announce that the Ministry of Education has received approval from the Ministry of Finance to recruit at least 7,000 teachers across the country,” he stated.
He further assured that the recruitment process will be conducted in a fair, transparent, and competitive manner. Graduates from the 2023, 2024, and 2025 cohorts are all eligible to apply for placement.
The Minister emphasized that priority will be given to applicants willing to serve in deprived and underserved communities, particularly in areas where there is a critical shortage of teachers, including parts of the Northern and Oti regions.
The initiative is expected to improve access to quality education in underserved areas while providing employment opportunities for thousands of qualified teachers nationwide.
