The Grassroots Alliance for Victory 2028, Ashanti Region Branch, has called for the immediate resignation of the General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Hon. Justin Frimpong Kodua, citing what it describes as leadership failures, poor management of the party’s internal elections, and a lack of support for grassroots members.
Addressing a press conference on Thursday, July 16, 2026, the group said it was deeply concerned about the current direction of the party following the release of the General Secretary’s “Minutes of Emergency Meeting” and the conduct of the recently held Constituency Executive Elections.
According to the group, directives instructing delegates to “Arrive. Vote. Leave” without the provision of transportation, food, drinks, or even water amounted to disrespect for the party’s grassroots supporters. The Alliance argued that delegates, who often travel long distances and spend their own resources to participate in party activities, deserved better treatment from the party leadership.
The group further blamed the General Secretary for the disturbances that reportedly characterized the constituency elections in some parts of the country. It claimed that inadequate planning, poor logistical arrangements, and insufficient security preparations contributed to incidents of violence, confusion, and arrests in some constituencies, including Afigya Sekyere East.
The Alliance also pointed to the NPP’s performance in the 2024 parliamentary elections, where the party’s representation in Parliament reportedly dropped from 137 seats to 88. It argued that the significant decline occurred under the leadership of Justin Frimpong Kodua and questioned his ability to lead the party into the 2028 general elections.
Another concern raised by the group centered on the party’s financial situation. It noted that while the General Secretary had cited severe financial constraints affecting party operations and election logistics, he had previously paid nomination fees for aspirants nationwide during an earlier internal election. The Alliance questioned the apparent contradiction and called for greater transparency and accountability regarding the party’s finances.
Based on these concerns, the Grassroots Alliance for Victory 2028 formally demanded the immediate resignation of Hon. Justin Frimpong Kodua as General Secretary of the NPP.
The group also urged the party’s National Council to intervene by providing basic logistical support for delegates in the remaining constituency elections, establishing an independent audit into the party’s finances and election logistics, and ensuring that grassroots members are given a stronger voice in decision-making processes.
The Alliance concluded by emphasizing that the strength of the NPP lies in its polling station executives, electoral area coordinators, and grassroots delegates, insisting that the concerns of the party’s base must be addressed to restore unity and position the party for victory in the 2028 general elections.
