The 7th Chartered Institute of Supply Chain Management (CISCM) Induction and Investiture Ceremony has emphasized the importance of integrated supply chain management in driving sustainable national development, strengthening institutions, and transforming Africa’s economy.
Speaking at the ceremony, the Acting President of CISCM, Rev. Dr. Emmanuel Apening (FCISCM), described integrated supply chain management as more than a technical process, but a philosophy that promotes value creation, innovation, collaboration, and economic growth.
He urged newly inducted members to embrace supply chain management as a tool for solving developmental challenges, stressing that effective coordination of resources, partnerships, and processes is essential for building resilient economies.
Rev. Dr. Apening noted that CISCM’s vision is anchored on professional development, consultancy and corporate sustainability, special initiatives, and stronger institutional and international relations to advance supply chain practices across Africa and beyond.
He called for the establishment of a Supply Chain Council of Ghana to provide coordination and regulation for the sector, bringing together professionals in procurement, logistics, and supply chain management under a unified framework.
He further announced that Ghana will host the 2026 Global Supply Chain Summit in October, an international gathering expected to bring together industry experts, government representatives, academics, and development partners to promote global supply chain excellence.
Delivering the keynote address on the theme “Integrated Supply Chain Management: A Catalyst for Sustainable National and Continental Development,” the Director General of the Ghana Prisons Service, Mrs. Patience Baffoe-Bonnie Esq., stressed the need for stronger supply chain systems to improve resource management, institutional efficiency, and economic transformation.
She explained that supply chain management has evolved beyond procurement and logistics, becoming a critical component of governance, public administration, and national development.
Mrs. Baffoe-Bonnie highlighted the role of integrated supply chains in enhancing food security, healthcare delivery, energy reliability, industrial productivity, and regional trade through the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).
She also outlined the Ghana Prisons Service’s “Think Ghana Prison Service 360 Degrees” initiative, which seeks to transform correctional facilities into centres of rehabilitation, skills development, productivity, and innovation.
According to her, the initiative has supported vocational training, agricultural programmes, and industrial production within prisons, including opportunities to manufacture school furniture, uniforms for the Ghana Education Service, and sanitary pads for the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection.
She emphasized that inmates must be equipped with skills and opportunities to ensure successful reintegration into society after serving their sentences.
The Director General called for stronger collaboration between CISCM and the Ghana Prisons Service, particularly in capacity building, entrepreneurship support, and vocational opportunities for officers and inmates.
The ceremony brought together supply chain professionals, government representatives, industry leaders, academics, and stakeholders to celebrate the achievements of newly inducted members and reaffirm the commitment to using integrated supply chain management as a driver of sustainable development in Ghana, Africa, and beyond.
