I’ve been through a lot in my career — Asamoah Gyan reflects on retirement and his new mission to support Ghana football

Asamoah Gyan has opened up on the emotional and mental challenges he faced after retiring from football, following his unveiling as Brand Ambassador for all Ghana National Teams and Colts Football by the Ghana Football Association.

Speaking after the ceremony, the former Black Stars captain said he has gone through many difficult moments throughout his football career, including both successes and setbacks, but believes those experiences have made him mentally strong.

According to Gyan, retirement was one of the toughest phases of his life, admitting that stepping away from the game affected him deeply. However, he explained that he now feels ready to openly speak about his journey and use his experiences to inspire young footballers and support Ghana football in a new role.

The all-time top scorer for the Black Stars stated that this is the right moment for him to serve the country again, stressing that he is fully prepared to contribute positively to the growth of the national teams.

Touching on Ghana’s chances ahead of the World Cup, Gyan said preparation and the commitment of the players will be key factors. He acknowledged that injuries within the squad could affect the team but remains hopeful that the players can rise to the challenge.

He also reaffirmed his love and support for the Black Stars, noting that even during his playing days, he considered himself a passionate fan of the national team.

Gyan added that he and other former players will use their experience to motivate and encourage the current squad, but ultimately the responsibility lies with the players to prove themselves and deliver results for Ghanaians.

He ended by wishing the Black Stars success and expressing confidence that the team can make the country proud on the world stage.
