Mr. Benjamin Asante Nyarko emphasizes enforcement and collaboration in 24-hour sanitation drive

The Ga East Municipal Assembly has reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining the newly launched 24-Hour Clean Ga East Program, describing it as a long-term intervention aimed at ensuring continuous sanitation and environmental cleanliness across the municipality.

Speaking after the launch, Mr. Benjamin Asante Nyarko, Personal Assistant to the Municipal Chief Executive, stressed that the initiative goes beyond a ceremonial event and is structured to deliver round-the-clock sanitation services.

He noted that the success of the program depends on strong collaboration among key stakeholders, including the Municipal Chief Executive, the Regional Minister, the Member of Parliament, and environmental health officers. According to him, the initiative reflects a unified commitment to improving sanitation standards within the municipality.

Mr. Asante Nyarko explained that the program will run continuously from morning to night, supported by dedicated sanitation teams and regular inspections to ensure compliance. To strengthen enforcement, the Assembly has deployed sanitation inspectorate teams equipped with pickups and motorbikes to monitor activities across communities.

He emphasized that enforcement will be a critical component of the initiative, with officers operating under a structured inspection schedule. Individuals or groups who fail to comply with sanitation regulations, he warned, will face punitive measures, demonstrating the Assembly’s resolve to uphold standards.

Addressing concerns about sustainability, Mr. Asante Nyarko revealed that the Assembly has developed a comprehensive operational blueprint to guide daily sanitation activities. The framework includes routine inspections, community engagement, and continuous monitoring to ensure the program’s long-term effectiveness.

He further underscored that sanitation is a shared responsibility, urging residents to take ownership of their environment. He called on citizens not to rely solely on authorities but to actively contribute by maintaining cleanliness in their homes and communities.

He also highlighted the role of electoral area coordinators and sanitation inspectors, who will oversee daily operations across all electoral areas. These teams are expected to begin work early each day, ensuring compliance among residents, traders, and other stakeholders.

In addition, the Assembly will hold regular engagements with assembly members and community leaders to assess progress, address challenges, and ensure inclusive implementation across all communities. He assured that the Assembly remains open to feedback and support from residents to improve the initiative.

Mr. Asante Nyarko concluded by urging all residents of Ga East to fully embrace the program, noting that while government provides leadership and policy direction, the ultimate success of the initiative depends on the collective effort and commitment of the people.
