The Greater Accra Regional Director of the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), Hon. Dennis Adjannor Nartey, has commended students, disaster volunteer groups (DVGs), and key stakeholders for their active participation in disaster risk reduction efforts during a sensitization programme.
Addressing participants at the Disaster Reduction Sensitization Program, he praised students for their creative drama presentation, describing it as a strong demonstration of resilience and the importance of preparedness in effective disaster management.

He further underscored the vital contribution of trained DVGs, disclosing that during a recent building collapse at Ayawaso Central, the volunteers were the first responders on the scene and successfully rescued about eight victims from the rubble before the arrival of formal emergency services.
The Regional Director encouraged more young people to join the volunteer groups, stressing that their involvement plays a crucial role in national development and community safety, rather than focusing solely on personal benefits.

Reiterating the need for collaboration, he called for stronger coordination between NADMO personnel and municipal authorities, cautioning that internal tensions could undermine effective disaster response and prevention efforts.

He also highlighted ongoing mitigation activities, including dredging works in flood-prone areas, and urged heightened preparedness ahead of forecasts of heavy rainfall. He noted that while disasters cannot be completely avoided, their impact can be significantly reduced through proactive planning, teamwork, and sustained commitment.
