National Sanitation Day Exercise in Aketechieso

Amansie Central DCE and Staff Storm Aketechieso Electoral Area with National Sanitation Day Exercise as Chief Joins the Race

In line with His Excellency President John Dramani Mahama’s directive to promote environmental cleanliness and improve public sanitation nationwide, the Amansie Central Assembly, alongside its staff, stormed the Aketechieso electoral area and its environs on August 7, 2026, to untire the electoral area.

The exercise brought together key stakeholders, including the Amansie Central District Chief Executive (DCE), the Chief of Aketechieso, police personnel, fire service personnel, and assembly staff. United by a shared commitment to keeping the district clean and healthy, members of the general public also turned out in large numbers.

Together, participants cleared streets, weeded surroundings, swept the community, and cleaned choked gutters, reaffirming their collective responsibility to protect the environment and prevent sanitation-related diseases.

The DCE for Amansie Central, Hon. Emmanuel Obeng-Agyemang (popularly known as Pedro), expressed profound appreciation to every individual, institution, and stakeholder who contributed to the success of the exercise.

“Your dedication and community spirit demonstrate what we can achieve when we work together for the common good,” Hon. Obeng-Agyemang noted.

Highlighting the turnout, the DCE stressed that Aketechieso exhibited unprecedented participation, the highest of its kind among all communities in the Amansie Central District since the introduction of the National Sanitation Day.

To support continuous community-led efforts during the district rotation, the assembly donated sanitation equipment to Aketechieso, including three wheelbarrows, 330long sweeping brooms, 88rakes, Shovels, and other essential tools.

The DCE emphasized that maintaining a clean environment should be treated as a continuous civic responsibility rather than a one-day event. He urged residents to cultivate proper waste disposal habits and environmental stewardship.

The Chief of Aketechieso, Nana Nuako Nuamah, expressed profound gratitude to the DCE and the government for the initiative.

Addressing emerging infrastructure challenges, Nana Nuako Nuamah appealed to the DCE for assistance with water scarcity, adequate toilet facilities, Streetlights and extension, refuse collection points
and the completion of a 6-unit classroom block.

In response, Hon. Obeng-Agyemang assured the chief that these challenges would be addressed amicably.

Taking a firm stance on environmental discipline, the DCE directed municipal environmental health officers to conduct regular inspections of markets and residential areas, warning that individuals found guilty of not participating in the exercise will face the necessary sanctions.

To ensure long-term compliance, the Assembly Member for the Aketechieso electoral area, Hon. Krobea Asante Daniel, revealed that one individual was summoned to the palace to face sanctions. Following a series of discussions involving the chief and the DCE, the accused pleaded guilty to the offense and pleaded to be forgiven.

”The DCE warned that anyone found wanting, not participating in the exercise or engaging in unhygienic practices, will face appropriate legal penalties to serve as a deterrent to others who habitually neglect their environmental responsibilities,” he stated.

Hon. Asante also appealed to environmental officers to focus on the reintroduction of town councils to help rigorously enforce sanitation laws and penalize individuals who violate them.

He added that because Aketechieso is the largest electoral area in the Amansie Central District with scattered filth across the area, the exercise will pave the way to clear the waste and promote environmental safety.

District Environmental Officer Dennis Kloo encouraged residents of Aketechieso to make effective use of the provided equipment to ensure continuous, monthly clean-up exercises that promote good sanitation.

He pledged the assembly’s continued commitment to improving the sanitation program by providing the necessary resources for communities to succeed.

Finally, residents of Aketechieso expressed deep appreciation to the government and the DCE for the massive organization of the exercise, promising to emulate the clean-up initiative every month.
