Politics must be about sacrifice, selflessness, and service to the people — not personal gain. — Fiifi Kwetey

General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Fiifi Kwetey, has called on party members to uphold the values of sacrifice, selflessness, and collective responsibility in their service to the party and the country.

Addressing journalists during a press briefing, Fiifi Kwetey stressed that political involvement should not be driven by personal ambition or the desire for individual gain. According to him, many people enter politics hoping to secure opportunities, positions, or benefits for themselves and their families, but warned that such an approach weakens the unity and long-term strength of the party.

He explained that every member of the NDC, from the branch level to the national leadership, has a role to play in building a stronger and more effective political organization. He noted that occupying positions within the party structure should not merely be seen as a pathway to personal advancement, but rather as a responsibility to serve and contribute to the growth of the party.

Fiifi Kwetey further reminded party faithful that the NDC was founded on the principles of courage, sacrifice, discipline, and commitment to the welfare of ordinary Ghanaians. He emphasized that those values must continue to guide the conduct and decisions of members at all levels of the party.

He admitted that promoting selflessness in today’s society is not an easy task, especially in an environment where many people naturally place their personal interests above the collective good. However, he maintained that true leadership requires individuals to think beyond themselves and work towards the broader interests of the people.

According to the NDC General Secretary, the ultimate focus of the party should always be on creating opportunities that benefit the wider population rather than concentrating power and privileges in the hands of a few individuals.

He therefore urged party members to remain united, committed, and focused on the larger vision of the NDC, stressing that the party’s mission should always be centered on service, national development, and improving the lives of the people.
