Ahafo Ano South West Assembly Elects Presiding Member After Initial Deadlock

The Ahafo Ano South West District Assembly has successfully elected a Presiding Member after two previously unsuccessful attempts that were marred by tension and disorder.

At the third meeting held to resolve the impasse, Assembly Members overwhelmingly elected Paul Akwasi Amegboe as the new Presiding Member. Out of 42 Assembly Members who participated in the voting excluding the District Chief Executive he secured 33 votes, giving him a decisive victory.

The earlier second meeting had to be recalled following chaotic scenes during the voting process. Reports indicate that tensions escalated to the point where some Assembly Members invoked curses, highlighting the deep divisions that initially plagued the election.

The successful election at the third sitting is being seen as a significant step toward restoring unity and ensuring effective governance in the district.

The meeting was chaired by the Mpasaaso Manhene, Nana Tabiri Gyansa, who supervised the proceedings to ensure a peaceful and orderly process.

Speaking to the media after the election, Paul Akwasi Amegboe expressed relief over the outcome and urged all members to put aside their differences and work together in the interest of the district’s development.

The election of a Presiding Member is expected to pave the way for smoother administrative operations within the Assembly after weeks of uncertainty.
