The Greater Accra Regional Coordinating Council has intensified preparations ahead of the peak rainy season as weather forecasts predict heavy rainfall in the coming days.
In collaboration with the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) and other emergency response agencies, the Council says several proactive measures are being rolled out to reduce the impact of flooding and related emergencies across the region.

The Authorities of the Regional Cordinating Council have directed all Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies, together with environmental health officers, to immediately begin interventions such as desilting drains, inspecting waterways and removing unauthorized structures obstructing the free flow of water.

The exercise is expected to focus on flood-prone areas including Alajo, Circle, Madina, Adenta, Tetegu, Dansoman, Kaneshie, Ashaiman, Weija, Tema Communities One and Two, Adabraka, Lakeside and Kwabenya.

The officials of the Regional Cordinating Council acknowledge that some roads may become inaccessible during periods of heavy rainfall, but insist measures are being put in place to minimize disruptions and safeguard lives and property. Emergency response teams have also been activated to respond swiftly to any incidents that may occur.
Schools, religious institutions and selected government facilities located in safer areas have been identified as temporary shelters to support possible evacuation efforts if the need arises.

The Regional Coordinating Council is also working closely with the Ghana Meteorological Agency to monitor weather conditions in real time and provide residents with timely early warning information.

Additionally, the Regional Security Council is expected to undertake inspection exercises to assess the level of preparedness and evaluate drainage challenges in affected communities.

Authorities further disclosed that streetlights along major roads have been repaired and installed in some parts of the region to improve visibility and enhance public safety during heavy rains.
