The Acting President of the Chartered Institute of Supply Chain Management (CISCM), Rev. Dr. Emmanuel Apeaning (FCISCM), has charged newly inducted members of the institute to embrace integrated supply chain management as a philosophy for creating value, driving innovation, and contributing to sustainable development.
Speaking at the 7th CISCM Induction and Investiture Ceremony, Rev. Dr. Apening explained that integrated supply chain management goes beyond the movement of goods and services, stressing that it involves a complete system of managing resources, processes, and partnerships to create lasting value for society.
He noted that CISCM’s approach is built on four strategic pillars, including professional development, consultancy and corporate sustainability, special initiatives, and institutional and international relations aimed at strengthening supply chain practices across Africa and beyond.
According to him, the institute is committed to transforming Africa’s economy from a primary commodity-based system into a value-added economy through local content development and strategic partnerships.
“Integrated supply chain management is not just a technical activity; it is a philosophy. It is about rethinking how we harness resources, collaborate, and create value for societies,” he said.
Rev. Dr. Apeaning called on the Government of Ghana to establish a Supply Chain Council of Ghana to provide coordination and regulation for the sector, bringing together various components including procurement, logistics, and supply chain professionals under one framework.
He further announced that CISCM, as the current chair of the International Federation of Purchasing and Supply Management (IFPSM), will host the global supply chain summit in Ghana in October 2026. The event will bring together practitioners, experts, governments, academia, and development partners from across the world.
The summit, he revealed, will feature a professional summit, business summit focusing on key sectors such as energy, health, agriculture, security, extractives, and value addition, as well as a tourism summit and recognition dinner celebrating excellence in supply chain management.
Rev. Dr. Apeaning also encouraged stakeholders, including government, businesses, and development partners, to support the global event, describing it as an opportunity to position Ghana as a hub for supply chain excellence.
Addressing the newly inducted members, he urged them to uphold values of quality, reliability, relevance, and good corporate citizenship, reminding them that their responsibility extends beyond professional practice.
“You are custodians of knowledge, agents of change, and champions of development. Integrated supply chain management is more than a profession; it is a catalyst for Africa’s transformation and global prosperity,” he added.
The ceremony brought together supply chain professionals, corporate partners, academics, and distinguished guests, including representatives from various institutions committed to advancing supply chain development.
